JOB TITLE: Senior Lecturer – Year Leads

SALARY & HOURS: 1 FTE £58,105 FTE

The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. Despite being one of the UK’s smallest university and the only independent university to hold a Royal Charter, Buckingham has staff from over 25 countries, making it a truly distinctive work environment. Whichever of our locations you find yourself working in, you will be sure to feel a part of our friendly community. Our size enables us to foster a very personalised, supportive, inclusive and collaborative environment, with lots of opportunity for development, something which we are very proud of.

The university is keen to build on its strengths to further enhance the teaching and research culture and is looking for a candidate who shares similar knowledge and research exchange ambitions and is keen to make a notable contribution. By joining our passionate and active team, the candidate can expect excellent support in their teaching, research, knowledge exchange and scholarly activity.

The Year Lead will join the Phase I teaching team and participate in the design, delivery and quality control of excellent undergraduate-level learning, teaching and assessment activities for the undergraduate MB ChB programme, Cert HE in medical sciences and Student Selected Components (SSCs).

The Year Lead provides academic and operational leadership for a designated year of the MB ChB programme and is responsible for the coordination, delivery and quality assurance of the curriculum within that year, ensuring alignment with programme learning outcomes, regulatory requirements and the School’s educational strategy.

The Year Lead provides line management and academic leadership to staff teaching within the year, oversees student progress and pastoral matters in collaboration with the Professional Development team, and works closely with Unit Leads, the Assessment Team and Programme Leadership to ensure effective curriculum delivery.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a doctoral degree in a subject related to medical science (for example epidemiology, public health, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics etc). In addition, they should have experience of teaching medical students or health professionals and experience of leadership in a higher education teaching role.

They should show a commitment to developing as a medical educator across a range of subject areas (with appropriate training). In addition, candidates should have experience of setting and marking assessments of various types, with clear evidence of organisational, administrative and IT skills along with a sound understanding of quality assurance and enhancement issues, procedures and practices.

Professional qualifications such as a recognised Higher Education teaching qualification or Higher Education Academy Fellowship would be advantageous.

We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box, but we are invested in our people and their development, so we encourage you to apply if you believe you have the majority of the skills and experience required and are keen to develop further!
